Iraq invasion 4th anniversary & 1 million Iraqi excess deaths

advertisement

On the 4th anniversary of the illegal US, UK and Australian invasion of Iraq the post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths total 1 million as determined from top US epidemiological data – evidence of immense US-UK-Oz war crimes.

The estimate of 1 million post-invasion excess deaths in Iraq follows inexorably and arithmetically from the findings of top US medical epidemiology group in the World's top Public Health School (the Nobel Laureate-containing Bloomberg School of Public Health) at the top US Johns Hopkins University, published peer-reviewed in the top UK medical journal The Lancet and endorsed by 27 top Australian medical experts (for the primary medical literature reference see: link and for its endorsement by 27 top Australian medical experts: link ).

Taking the 2006 Johns Hopkins data but using a Jordan/Syria baseline of 4 deaths per 1,000 (as opposed to a baseline of 5.5 deaths/1,000 for Iraq after 12 years of crippling Sanctions) gives an "annual excess death rate" of 9.3 per 1,000, 9,300/million and post-invasion excess deaths totalling 9,300 x 27 x 4 = 1,004,400 i.e. 1.0 million as of March 2007 (for detailed analysis see: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/12904/42/ ).

This is evidence of an immense war crime committed by the US and its racist, war criminal Coalition allies. Inspection of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (especially articles 38, 55 and 56; see: http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/instree/y4gcpcp.htm ) reveals that the Occupier is obliged "to the fullest extent of the means available to it" to preserve the lives of its conquered subjects..

Indeed in 2004 and 2005 I sent a detailed formal complaints to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and his colleagues re US-UK war crimes in iraq (see: http://www.countercurrents.org/us-polya211205.htm ). I subsequently received detailed replies (in French and English) indicating that they were investigating my complaint to see whether they should mount a full scale investigation.

It has now been reported that the Chief Prosecutor is willing to launch such investigations (see: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/03/18/nirq118.xml ), QUOTE: "Tony Blair faces the prospect of an International Criminal Court investigation for alleged coalition war crimes in Iraq. The court's chief prosecutor told The Sunday Telegraph that he would be willing to launch an inquiry and could envisage a scenario in which the Prime Minister and American President George W Bush could one day face charges at The Hague."

Indeed the Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter has called for the arraignment of Bush and Blair before fthe International Criminal Court (see his Nobel Prize Acceptance speech: http://www.countercurrents.org/arts-pinter081205.htm ), QUOTE: "How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice. But Bush has been clever. He has not ratified the International Criminal Court of Justice. Therefore if any American soldier or for that matter politician finds himself in the dock Bush has warned that he will send in the marines. But Tony Blair has ratified the Court and is therefore available for prosecution. We can let the Court have his address if they're interested. It is Number 10, Downing Street, London."

ONE MILLION? More than enough, I would have thought.

In 1945 ordinary Germans said that "they didn't know" that the Jewish Holocaust was happening. The same excuse CANNOT be used by the citizens of the US Alliance over the carnage in Occupied Iraq and Occupied Afghanistan , notwithstanding the continuing lying by commission and omission of racist, holocaust-ignoring Mainstream media – the awful truth is only several mouse clicks away.

Below is a detailed LETTER summarizing the carnage in Iraq and sent to Mainstream media around the world on the occasion of the Fourth Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq – they will mostly no doubt continue to IGNORE the carnage but they cannot say that "they didn't know".

Dear Sir/Madam,

Four years after the illegal US-UK-Australian invasion of Iraq, how many Iraqis have died post-invasion?

Post-invasion Occupied Iraqi excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to happen) now total ONE MILLION as of March 2007, after 4 years of war and as estimated from data from the top US medical epidemiology group in the World's top Public Health School (the Nobel Laureate-containing Bloomberg School of Public Health) at the top US Johns Hopkins University, published peer-reviewed in the top UK medical journal The Lancet and endorsed by 27 top Australian medical experts. [1-3]

Consonant with post-invasion excess deaths in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories totalling 1.0 million and 2.4 million, respectively, the post-invasion under-5 year old infant deaths total 0.5 million and 1.9 million, respectively; the number of refugees total 3.8 million and 3.8 million, respectively; and, according to WHO, the annual per capita medical expenditures permitted by the Occupiers are $64 and $23, respectively, as compared to $2,874 (Australia), $2,389 (UK) and $5,711 (US). [4-10]

The accrual cost (i.e. the long-term committed cost) of the Bush Iraq and Afghan Wars is now $2.5 TRILLION, this estimate coming from 2001 Economics Nobel Laureate and former Chief Economist of the World Bank US Professor Stiglitz (Columbia) and Professor Linda Bilmes (Harvard), who also estimate a cost of $6.5 million for each US soldier killed. Assuming the "all men are created equal" this leads to a Reparations Bill of $ 6.5 million x 3.4 million = $22 trillion. [11 -12]

These horrendous outcomes indicate gross violation by the US Alliance of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (notably Articles 38, 55 and 56), UN Genocide Convention (specifically Article 2) as well as of the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Rights of the Child Convention. Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. We are inescapably obliged to inform everyone about horrendous abuses of humanity. [13-16]

Yours sincerely,
Dr Gideon Polya

PS In a previous time this would have been unnecessary, but I am compelled by the Mainstream Silence to add "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not kill children".

Expressing the view that "thou shalt not kill" and that "thou shalt not kill children" is neither pompous nor self-promoting but an inescapable obligation on all decent people.

There is a semantic distinction between kill and murder as applied to human beings (e.g. accidental manslaughter versus murder). Deliberate active or passive killing of subject children in an occupied country is murder - and on a big scale (as by the US-UK-Oz perpetrators in Occupied Iraq) is mass murder.

Unfortunately racist Mainstream media choose to ignore horrendous excess mortality of children in Occupied Iraq that stems largely from deliberate lack of provision of life-sustaining requisites demanded of occupiers by the Geneva Convention.

The "world's most influential living philosopher", Bioethicist Professor Singer (Princeton, ex Monash University, Melbourne) makes no moral distinction between active and passive killing of children (as for example in actively terminating the life of a newborn child or passively doing so by withholding sustenance and care).

And you are quite correct - I cannot abide Howard and his confreres Bush and Blair for inhumane dishonesty and their complicity in horrendous active and passive mass murder in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories.

Dr Mahathir of Malaysia (where the "annual under-5 year old infant death rate" is 0.14% as compared to 0.17% in Cuba and the US and a genocidal 2.7% in Occupied Iraq and 6.7% Occupied Afghanistan) has described these creatures thus (see: link ):

"History should remember Blair and Bush as the Killer of Children or as the Lying Prime Minister and President. What Blair and Bush had done is worse that what Saddam had done. We should not hang Blair if the Tribunal finds him guilty but he should always carry the label War Criminal, Killer of Children, Liar. And so should Bush and the pocket Bush of the bushlands of Australia [Howard]."

WAR HAS HEAVY PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT ON IRAQI CHILDREN

And as the fourth year of war in Iraq comes to an end, doctors report that the constant violence is taking its toll on the country's youngest generation. Children are exhibiting a range of reactions to the bloodshed they've witnessed.

It's a brutal reflection of daily life in Iraq. "Die!" they shout. "Die now!" Plastic machine guns and pistols - a game of "kill the insurgents".

BOY (TRANSLATOR): We learned this from the Americans. It's my favourite game.

DR SAIED AL-HASHIMI, PROFESSOR OF PSYCHIATRY: Our children are surrounded by violence. They...they... In every direction they look they see violence. Car bombs, kidnappings, air strikes and mass displacement. Dr Saied al-Hashimi is a professor of psychiatry.

DR SAIED AL-HASHIMI: Now I can say that almost all the Iraqi children, especially in Baghdad and around Baghdad - these are what we call the hot zones - most of them are traumatised.

Mustafa Karim is a seemingly happy young boy, despite living in a squalid refugee camp in the Shi'ite Baghdad slum of Sadr City. His family was brutally driven out of their village by insurgents. "They killed my father and uncle in front of my eyes."

Iraq's healthcare system is reeling from victims of the physical brutality of war, too overwhelmed to deal with the victims of a psychological battle. Many of Iraq's best and brightest doctors have either been murdered or fled the country. Helping is left to a small team of doctors like Haider Abdul Mohsen. He runs a one-man psychiatric clinic. He says it's the only one in Iraq. Despite meagre resources, he treats up to 15 patients a day. Patients like 8-year-old Dahra - when bombs burst in her neighbourhood she suffers seizures. And 13-year-old Kita - When she hears blasts she hits her mother.

HAIDER ABDUL MOHSEN, CHILD PSYCHIATRIST: A lot of children become very violent, become very aggressive. They talk badly, they behave in a bad manner. And we think this is one of the effects of war.

16-year-old Saman is severely depressed. She screams and cries in the middle of the night, too afraid to sleep. Saman was kidnapped by someone - we don't know who - outside of her school. She was held for nine days in a windowless room with 20 other girls, beaten and forced to sleep next to the dead body of a girl who was raped and killed. Her family paid $20,000 for her release. She asked us to conceal her identity. Saman's mother pleads with Dr Haider to help her daughter. "It's OK. It's OK," he says to her. "Calm down." But to me he says a generation is lost.

Thank you very much for that I SPY.

It is a very small leap of imagination to appreciate the daily horror and trauma for the variously physically damaged or physically intact survivors of the US-UK-Oz Iraqi Genocide and especially the CHILDREN - the immense trauma that lies behind the bald statistics (largely ignored by racist, lying, holocaust-ignoring Western Mainstream media) of 1 million excess deaths, 3.8 million refugees, 0.5 million under-5 year old infant deaths and 122,000 under-5 year old infants dying every year - 1,000 infants dying every 3 days i.e. 3,000 [= 9/11 death toll] every 9 days (see UNICEF: link) - in US-UK-Oz-occupied Iraq (population about 27 million).

I am lucky to live in peaceful Melbourne, regularly voted as the most livable city in the world, our Lord Mayor Mr So has been recently voted the most popular mayor in the world (contrast Baghdad - a devastated hell-hole ruled by racist, genocidal, foreign conquerors). In Australia the only really traumatized people I have met (apart from veterans and survivors of Nazi occupation and the Holocaust) are mostly refugees from US or US-backed invasions and wars.

A true story about child trauma - years ago we were on holiday at a wide sandy beach with a severely paralyzed child in calipers and with crutches - he was too terrified to take even a few steps towards the water (if a big wave came he could not escape?) but a highly traumatized teenage boy survivor of the Cambodian Genocide (traumatized to silence; cared for by our host and hostess) understood his fear and was able to gently lead him to the water's edge to everyone's utter amazement.

Americans were profoundly affected by the 9/11 atrocity - yet every 10 days, the repeatedly "democratically"-elected Bush Administration is responsible for the active and passive killing of 3,000 under-5 year old Iraqi infants - and this ongoing atrocity has been repeated 36 times each year and 144 times over the last 4 years while the lying, racist, holocaust-ignoring Mainstream media looks the other way.

You can now understand why outstanding Jewish American financier and philanthropist George Soros (survivor of the Jewish Holocaust in Hungary) has called for the "de-Nazification" of Bush America (see: link ).
