Dr David Hearn (Associate Professor (French and Linguistics) , University of Western Ontario 1996 – present) : "

Pulitzer Prize winner and civil rights activist Alice Walker from the US Boat to Gaza says challenges to the blockade of Gaza are the Freedom Rides of our time – and like the 1960s civil rights movement in the U.S. South, we must keep up the struggle despite attempts to intimidate us.

As my colleague Ziad notes, the Palestinians of Gaza are left with “a hope in international civil society solidarity which is organising throughout the world in order to try, through peaceful actions, to break this blockade.”

I posted the following comment (some links edited ) on The Conversation about this article - but in keeping with what seems to be a pro-Zionist policy if censorship on the The Conversation - it was removed it . I have posted it again:

"Excellent article by anti-racist humanitarian Dr David Heap.

The Gaza Strip has been described as Israel's "Gaza Concentration Camp" by the Catholic Church (by Cardinal Renato Martino is the head of the Vatican Council for Justice and Peace and a former Holy See envoy to the United Nations) and by important conservative US political commentator, author, columnist, political candidate and broadcaster. Pat Buchanan. UK PM David Cameron has stated that the Israeli blockade has turned Gaza Strip into a 'prison camp' (see: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/jul/27/david-cameron-gaza-prison-camp ) and outstanding Jewish American scholar Professor Noam Chomsky from 77-Nobel-Laureate MIT and Jewish Israeli Professor Ilan Pappe have described it as "the world’s largest open-air prison" (see: http://www.gazaincrisis.org/ ). Former UK Foreign Minister, Jewish British MP David Milliband recently visited the Gaza Concentration Camp and commented: "Save the Children, obviously, is most concerned about the 53% of the Gaza population under 18. The statistics say 10% of children are "stunted" – so undernourished before the age of two that they never grow to their full potential" (see: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/11/david-miliband-gaza-politics-save-the-children ).

In the blockade of the Gaza Concentration Camp by what numerous scholars and writers refer to as Apartheid Israel (see: https://sites.google.com/site/boycottapartheidisrael/) , this race-based, nuclear terrorist, war criminal, genocidal rogue state (see eminent Jewish Israeli Oxford professor Avi Shlaim: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/07/gaza-israel-palestine ) is grossly violating Articles 55 and 56 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War that unequivocally demand that an Occupier must supply life-sustaining food and medical requisites to the conquered population "to the fullest extent of the means available to it".

The Apartheid Israeli cry of "terrorism" is a Gobbelsian lie. According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry: “From 1920 through 1999, a total of 2,500 residents of Mandatory Palestine and, since 1948, the State of Israel fell victims to hostile enemy action; in most cases, terrorist attacks” (see: http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-+Obstacle+to+Peace/Palestinian+terror+before+2000/ ) and “1,218 people have been killed by Palestinian violence and terrorism since September 2000” (see: http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-+Obstacle+to+Peace/Palestinian+terror+since+2000/Victims+of+Palestinian+Violence+and+Terrorism+sinc.htm ).

In contrast, since 1936, the ongoing Palestinian Genocide has involved about 2.0 million war- and occupation-related Palestinian deaths, 0.1 million Palestinians killed violently (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_casualties_of_war ) , 1.9 million avoidable Palestinian deaths from war- , occupation- and expulsion-imposed deprivation, 7 million refugees. 3,000 Palestinian infants and over 4,000 Palestinians in are passively murdered by Apartheid Israel each year, and 0.8 million Palestinian children are abusively confined to the Gaza Concentration Camp for the "crime" of being Indigenous Palestinians (note that in 1880 there were about 0.5 million Indigenous Palestinians. Of the 25,000 Jews in Palestine half were immigrants (see: http://www.palestineremembered.com/Acre/Palestine-Remembered/Story559.html and http://www.mideastweb.org/palpop.htm ). Apartheid Israel is conducting a slow Palestinian Genocide (Google the phrase).

7 billion anti-racist human beings can't all follow the example of the brave people of the Gaza Flotillas - but what must decent anti-racist folk do about Apartheid Israel's Palestinian Genocide? Decent people must (a) inform everyone they can about the Palestinian Genocide and (b) urge and apply sanctions, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel and all countries, corporations, people, politicians and parties complicit in this atrocity (Google "Boycott Apartheid Israel"). In Australia that means boycotting the pro-Zionist Lib-Labs and the Gillard Labor Government in particular.

The powerful Zionist Lobby was incensed by PM Kevin Rudd's slap on the wrist to the Israelis over the forging of Australian passports for terrorist purposes and the violent kidnapping of 5 Australians in international waters on the Gaza Flotilla (5 kidnapped, 1 tasered, 1 shot). The June 2010 Coup was backed by the US and foreign mining companies but was carried out by the extreme right pro-Zionist faction of the Labor Party (see outstanding Jewish Australian writer Antony Loewenstein's "Does the Zionist Lobby have blood on its hands in Australia?": http://antonyloewenstein.com/2010/07/02/does-the-zionist-lobby-have-blood-on-its-hands-in-australia/ ).

Zionism is racism in ugly theory and genocidal practice. Decent Labor voters will vote 1 Green and put Labor last until Labor returns to decent human values and cleanses itself of pro-Zionism. The racist Zionists must be sidelined from society as have been like racists such as the Nazis, neo-Nazis, Apartheiders and KKK."
